About Grafton Lodge
A small home, run by a family
A care home in Strood, Rochester, for up to 22 older people, some of whom live with dementia. Our aim is simple: a homely, happy place where everyone is cared for as a person.

Our story
Owned by two GPs who know later life
Grafton Lodge is owned by Murali and Darshini, a husband and wife who both work as GPs and have experience in elderly care. They understand the physical, psychological and social needs of older people, and want every resident to have individual, person-centred care and a good quality of life.
Their company is called Sathya Care. ‘Sathya’ is the Sanskrit word for truth: being honest and open in what you think, say and do. It's the value we try to bring to everything at Grafton Lodge.

24/7
Care, day and night
Our care team is here around the clock, every day of the year.

Our team
The people who make it home
Our registered manager, Christina Munn, leads the care team day to day, alongside our cooks and housekeepers. Dr Darshini Ratnasingham is responsible for the service with the Care Quality Commission.
Our carers plan care around each resident's preferences and work closely with GPs, district nurses and other professionals. We check the quality of our care regularly and keep looking for ways to do better.

Questions
Answers to the questions families ask most
Can't see your question? Call us on 01634 722621 and we'll talk it through.
What care do you offer?
Residential care, dementia care and short respite stays. We also support people with physical disabilities and sight or hearing loss, and provide palliative care. Whatever the care, it's planned around the person.
Can we visit before deciding?
Yes, and we'd encourage it. Call us and we'll arrange a time for you to look round, meet the team and ask your questions.
Do you provide nursing care?
No. We're a residential care home, not a nursing home, so we can't look after people with complex medical needs. Our care team is here day and night, and GPs and district nurses visit when residents need them.
How are meals handled?
Breakfast, lunch and dinner are home-cooked and served in our dining room, or in residents' rooms if they prefer. Our cooks cater for special diets, whether for health, medical or religious reasons.
Can residents personalise their rooms?
Yes. Residents are welcome to bring family photos, treasured ornaments and favourite furniture, as long as it fits and is safe in the room.
Who inspects Grafton Lodge?
The Care Quality Commission (CQC), the independent regulator of care in England. Our current rating is shown at the bottom of every page, and the full report is on the CQC website.
