About this care

A care home in Strood for people who need a bit more help

Grafton Lodge is a small, family-run care home at 40 Goddington Road, Strood, looking after up to 22 older people. We're in Medway, close to Rochester, Chatham and Gillingham.

Residential care means help with the everyday things that have become hard to manage alone: washing and dressing, medication, meals and getting about safely. Our care team is here day and night.

Each of our 20 bedrooms has its own en-suite wet room, and a lift serves both floors of the house. Residents are welcome to bring photos, ornaments and favourite furniture to make their room their own.

Is it right for you?

You might be thinking about residential care if…

Every family's situation is different. Residential care is often the right step when living at home is no longer safe or comfortable. These are some of the reasons families get in touch.
  1. Mum is managing less well at home, and you're worried about falls or missed meals.

  2. Dad has been in hospital and can't safely go back to living alone.

  3. You've been caring at home and can't keep it up on your own any more.

What residential care here includes

  • Care and support, day and night
  • A bedroom with its own en-suite wet room
  • Three home-cooked meals a day
  • Laundry done in the home by our own staff
  • Activities, music and celebrations
  • Visits from GPs, district nurses and the chiropodist

Getting started

How to arrange care

Taking the first step can feel daunting. It needn't be. Here's what happens, from your first call to moving-in day, with no pressure at any point.
  1. Get in touch

Call us or request a call back for a no-pressure chat about your situation. Ask us anything about the home, the care or the fees.

  2. Come and look round

See the home, meet the team and ask your questions in person. Call first and we'll arrange a time that suits you.

  3. Getting to know them

Before anyone moves in, we find out about their health, their routines and what matters to them, so we can plan their care and be sure we're the right home.

  4. Moving in

Bring photos, ornaments and favourite things to make the room their own. We take moving day at your pace, and keep in touch as they settle.

Questions

Answers to the questions families ask most

Can't see your question? Call us on 01634 722621 and we'll talk it through.

Is Grafton Lodge a nursing home?

No. We're a residential care home, not a nursing home, so we can't look after people with complex medical needs. Our care team is here day and night, and GPs and district nurses visit when residents need them.

How much does residential care cost?

Fees depend on the room and the care someone needs. Call us on 01634 722621 for current fees, and see our fees and funding page for the ways care can be paid for.

Can residents bring their own things?

Yes. Residents are welcome to bring family photos, treasured ornaments and favourite furniture, as long as it fits and is safe in the room.

Is the home easy to get around?

The house is on two floors with a lift, and each of our 20 bedrooms has its own en-suite wet room. Every bedroom has a call button so residents can ask for help at any time.
