About this care

Short-stay care when you need a break

Caring for someone you love is hard work, and everyone needs a rest from time to time. A respite stay gives your relative a comfortable room, home-cooked meals and the same care as our permanent residents, while you recharge.

Respite also suits people who are well enough to leave hospital but not yet ready to go home. We're not a nursing home, so we can't help with complex medical needs, but for many people we offer exactly the care and attention they need, day and night.

Some families use a short stay as a trial run. If a longer stay is ever needed, the home and the team already feel familiar.

Is it right for you?

Respite might be right if…

Respite helps for all sorts of reasons. These are the ones families most often come to us with.
  1. You've been caring at home and badly need a rest, or a holiday.

  2. Mum is ready to leave hospital but isn't ready to be home alone.

  3. You're thinking about a permanent move and want to see how Dad settles.

What a respite stay includes

  • A bedroom with its own en-suite wet room
  • Three home-cooked meals a day
  • Care and support, day and night
  • Help with medication
  • Activities and company
  • No long-term commitment

Getting started

How to arrange care

Taking the first step can feel daunting. It needn't be. Here's what happens, from your first call to moving-in day, with no pressure at any point.
  1. Get in touch

Call us or request a call back for a no-pressure chat about your situation. Ask us anything about the home, the care or the fees.

  2. Come and look round

See the home, meet the team and ask your questions in person. Call first and we'll arrange a time that suits you.

  3. Getting to know them

Before anyone moves in, we find out about their health, their routines and what matters to them, so we can plan their care and be sure we're the right home.

  4. Moving in

Bring photos, ornaments and favourite things to make the room their own. We take moving day at your pace, and keep in touch as they settle.

Questions

Answers to the questions families ask most

Can't see your question? Call us on 01634 722621 and we'll talk it through.

How long can a respite stay be?

Respite stays are normally from a few days to a few weeks. Call us to talk about the dates you need and we'll check what we can offer.

Can a respite stay become permanent?

It can. Some families use a short stay as a trial run, so if a longer stay is needed later, the home and the team already feel familiar. There's no pressure either way.

Can someone come to you straight from hospital?

Respite can suit people who are well enough to leave hospital but not ready to return home. We can't look after complex medical needs, so call us and we'll talk through what care is needed.

How much does respite care cost?

Fees depend on the room and the care someone needs. Call us on 01634 722621 for current fees, and see our fees and funding page for the ways care can be paid for.

How do we book a stay?

Call us on 01634 722621. We'll ask about the dates and the care needed, and check we have a room for you.
